About Health Initiatives

Anaemia Mukt Bharat (Mission Shakti): In our country, Iron Deficiency Anaemia (IDA) is very common amongst Women of all age groups. It is observed that more than 50% women are Anaemic. To overcome IDA in school going girls in the age group 12-14, we have devised a program called Mission Shakti in consultation with doctors. This is carried out through collaborative efforts with like – minded organizations and schools. At the start, we take a CBC blood test to identify Anaemic girls.

The program runs through 90 days. We provide daily Iron Supplements through school and monitor. After 90 days, we repeat CBC test to find out the status. We also provide consultation to parents about Food & Hygiene habits so that the girls remain non anaemic post program. We have also started including Lady Teachers in these programs across schools. This is our flagship program. We have reached 8 Schools & 3500 students through this program. Our Success rate is more than 85%.

The Blood Donation Camps: The need for Blood is perpetual. The causes are very many from planned surgeries to genetic defects like Thalassemia etc. The Covid-19 pandemic caused disruption in Blood collections by various social organizations and blood banks. We, BVP South Pune branch has been consistently conducting Blood Donation camps for more than last 10 years.

Save A Life” program: We have provided a Blood Storage Unit to Shlok Hospital located in Khed Shivapur area under our Save A Life program. This unit is a stepdown version of a Blood Bank. This storage unit is authorized by FDA to store blood of all blood groups. Shlok Hospital supports a large area called Shivganga Basin which covers about 130 villages and a large track of Mumbai- Bangaluru highway. This area does not have a blood bank. The need for blood availability cannot be over emphasized considering accident victims on the highway and also by patients from 130 villages.

For getting blood for a patient in emergency situation, the hospital was required to send a rider from khed shivapur to Pune city crossing Katraj Ghat. To & Fro journey and time required to cross match the blood was close to 1.5 hrs. The time lost in getting blood was the deciding factor between Life & Death of patient. To overcome this difficulty, we have provided necessary funding to Shlok Hospital to start a Blood Storage unit. This has avoided the time loss and thus made blood available within no time to the patients. Since January 2026, Shlok Hospital has provided more than100 blood bags to patients.
